About the Exhibition: “Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art together with the Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford Connecticut will present a special exhibit entitled, “Ever the Twain Shall Meet”, bringing Twain’s time in Bermuda to life. The exhibit runs until the end of June and is the first in a series of collaborations between the two museums. Between 1867 and 1910 Twain visited Bermuda seven times for a total of 187 days. Twain penned there is “just enough of whispering, breeze, fragrance of flowers, and sense of repose to raise one’s thoughts heavenward; and just enough amateur piano music to keep him reminded of the other place.…” Twain’s writings extoll the peaceful beauty of the island as well as its sometimes dissonant charm, and were published between 1877–78 in The Atlantic Monthly as “Some Rambling Notes of an Idle Excursion.” Guided by these words, Ever the Twain Shall Meet takes visitors on a journey through Twain’s visits to Bermuda, retracing the steps to his favorite haunts and places of inspiration.” —  Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art http://www.bermudamasterworks.com/ever-the-twain-shall-meet/

The National Gallery of Jamaica's (NGJ) Last Sundays programme for June 2014 is scheduled for Sunday, June 29, and is presented in association with Kingston on the Edge (KOTE), Jamaica's first urban arts festival. The programme will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The featured performance for the day, scheduled to start at 2 p.m., is by Aisha Davis. A singer, songwriter, dancer and actress, Davis combines soulful vocals and dance moves. About Robert Las Heras: “Robert las Heras was born in 1943 in Port al Spain, Trinidad. Robert has decided to part with his collection because he considers that it Is now time to relinquish the responsibility of the curatorship of these works of art to others. He was educated at St. Mary's College, where his inclination towards the Arts, put firmly in place by his parents al home, was fostered and directed by the extraordinary Fr. Roland Quesnel, C.S.Sp. It was at this time, at the age of 9, Fiat lie became fast friends with the late Wayne Berkeley, genius of the Carnival. Later, at 16, he met and established a lifelong friendship with Peter Minshall, genius of Theatre, and arguably the finest of our Mas' designers. His artistic mentors and tutors included M.P. who lived next door to the las Heras family borne in Maraval, and Carlisle Chang, who tutored him in art for almost three years when the family moved le the city in 1959. He left for England in the early sixties where, in London, he enrolled at the Hammersmith College of Art and Building to study Architecture. In 1966/67, while still at college, he returned to do practical studies with architect John Newel Lewis. He lived, studied and worked in London for 17years. His first employer in England was Sir Denys Lasdun (later Lord Lasdun) whose mentoring was to be a lifelong influence. It was during his student years in London that he met and became lifelong friends with the late historian, musician and artist, the multi-gifted Pat Bishop. He returned to Trinidad in 1979 to practice with the Anthony Lewis Partnership. About the Artist: “Charlotte Riley-Webb is an Atlanta-based artist and educator. She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Cleveland Institute of Art. Her works are in numerous private and corporate collections. She has exhibited her work throughout the U.S., most notable her exhibition From Stories of My America toured for three years to museums and galleries throughout the Southeast. About the Artist: “Otto Trott was born in Bermuda. He grew up in St. George’s. He was taught by Charles Lloyd Tucker, at the Berkeley Institute. Mr. Tucker would paint in the art room and took his classes to exhibitions at City Hall. This exposure to art inspired Otto to become an artist. Otto himself eventually taught at the Berkeley Institute for 8 years. Otto painted “en plein air” for most of his early career. He mainly worked in watercolour until he went to the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1983. There Otto began working in oil paint. Otto continued working outdoors and could be seen going to painting sites with his easel and canvas strapped in his bike’s basket. Otto began working in the studio in 1991where he began to paint Bermudians at work and at play. People especially enjoy how Otto paints water.
