Event Description: “NLS's 'La Práctica Residency + Curatorial & Art Writing Fellowship' - DEADLINE: Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at NLS Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Apply to our artist and curatorial programs before March 31. There are no application fees. La Práctica is a funded group residency awarded to four art practitioners based on a model developed by Beta Local, an artist-run organisation in Puerto Rico. The program creates a space for communal sharing and learning, with a curriculum that draws on participants’ own interests and knowledge. Through the program artists and practitioners build community and acquire the professional skills to advance their practice and engage nuanced conversations around it. Applicants are not required to have a degree nor is a prior exhibition history required. La Práctica is geared towards creatives in the early stages of developing a committed and rigorous creative practice; The Curatorial & Art Writing Fellowship is a 5-month long mentorship program geared towards addressing the dearth of archival scholarship on the work of artists in Jamaica and the Caribbean by empowering young writers and curators with the tools to write these histories. Accepted applicants are awarded a work stipend as well as publication stipend.
