The Jamaica Film and Television Association (JAFTA) is a not-for-profit association geared at aiding with the development of Jamaica’s film and television industry through capacity building, developmental, collaborative and promotional initiatives ... The 'Beyond Fashion' exhibition looks at a selection of artists who work with, or have incorporated, elements of fashion, its creative processes and outcomes as a part of their practice. The artworks featured portray experimentation outside the boundaries of everyday fashion and the capacity for fashion themed art making to delve into topics of the personal and the political. Beyond Fashion includes the work of artists who are experienced in fashion design, fashion photography and jewellery making. Event Description: “We start the evening with Gustavius Renwick's short film 'Contact Zone' which takes place in an art gallery in New York City and details the seduction and attraction between visitor and curator. The main feature 'Free Swim,' an award-winning documentary film by Jennifer Galvin is about the paradox of coastal people not knowing how to swim. Taking place on the island of Eleuthera, we follow a group of kids as they overcome their fears, gain confidence and reconnect with their environment by learning to swim in open waters. With fresh memories of a friend drowning and the conflicts of growing tourism, for the children, it is not just about floating but gaining new skills for their future. Event Description: “Double Dutch supports the concept of bringing local, regional and diasporic-based artists together to work with a group of ideas personal, political and otherwise crucial to the development of a contemporary Bahamian identity. These artists and collectives are often divided linguistically and geographically, but are united by common historical, economic or practice-based conditions. For this reason, the project attempts to create and maintain ties throughout the Caribbean and the more extensive diaspora ... This year's series moves into its seventh iteration with 'Hot Water.'
