Event Description: “On Saturday, March 11th, starting at 4 p.m., the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas will host an artists’ talk 'Fake Plastic Trees' with Artist Attila Feszt who seeks to highlight the difference in lifestyles and awareness in Hope Town, Abaco, by creating a physical barrier that prevents you from seeing what is right in front of you: A concrete visual obstruction as an analogy; a space of contemplation that enables and reinforces the need for continuous open dialogue regarding responsible and sustainable tourism. Hope Town is a quaint tropical island paradise and one of the original settlements of The Bahamas. Rapid development has transformed parts of this idyllic island into a commodity of indulgent oases, sealed against sustainable island life, real island life. Transplants live in a plastic bubble of consumption, comfort, and ease while working locals struggle to keep up with the inflated cost of living and all of the other ills that come with foreign investment and sale of birthright.
