|“My Life as A Dog” on February 23, 2017 at The NAGB|
Event Description: “The Fall/Winter series concludes on February 23rd with the eclectic 1985 Swedish film 'My Life As A Dog.' The film, directed by Lasse Hallstrom, follows the adventures of a 12-year-old boy growing up in rural Sweden in the late 50s. The film is an unsentimental look at how terrifying it can be when growing up. It allows the viewer to see into a child’s universe with all of its complexities and terrors without the benefit of the usual Hollywood spin. The film's star is a precocious young boy, Anton Glanzelius, who has an innate ability to project the unpredictability of children onto the screen in every scene. The film has a lyrical quality to it, and despite its uncompromising look at life and how unfair it can be; it retains an affectionate quality to it, one that radiates throughout the film. All children are magical in their way, and this film, more than any other captures that spirit without resorting to sentimentality or nostalgia. My Life as a Dog, screens at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 23rd. All films are free to attend and to make your experience that much more enjoyable; we will be offering popcorn and refreshments for sale. RSVP to let us know that you'll be watching with us ...” — Read more: NAGB Film Event-My Life as A DogFor further information: NAGB Film Event-My Life as A Dog, The NAGB-Facebook and The NAGB.
