Event Description: “In her first exhibition after three years in the Guatibirí Gallery, renowned artist Mariantonia Ordóñez explores the worlds of women - 'their loneliness, their solidarities' - in twenty drawings of different sizes made with acrylic inks on paper in an exhibition entitled 'Mariantonia Ordóñez’s - Tintas,' which opens on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 7:00pm at the Art League in Old San Juan. 'Exploring the feminine has always been the central theme of my work,' said the artist: 'I have worked a lot with the relationship, from my point of view, between man and woman. In this series, however, I speak only of my feelings as a woman, how I am inserted in the world, how I perceive other women. There is much of the loneliness felt by being a woman and by solidarity with other women.' 'Mariantonia Ordóñez’s - Tintas' continues until December 15 and will be guided by the artist visits. About the Artist: “Draftswoman and painter. Mariantonia Ordóñez studied art at Universidad de Puerto Rico, the Art Students League and at Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico. She has participated in art events in Puerto Rico, the United States, Cuba and Ecuador. In 1989 she was awarded a grant by Programa de Subvención Básica para las Artes from Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, through funds from the National Endowment for the Arts. Ordóñez has illustrated many children’s books, among them 'La peineta roja,' by Fernando Pico and 'La cucarachita Martina' in versions by Rosario Ferré and Carmen Rivera Izcoa.
