Event Description: “The Institute for Gender and Development Studies: Nita Barrow Unit will celebrate the rich pride and industry of Barbados and its diaspora in a series of events this month. 'Bird Hill in Baby Pink' brings together the captivating visual arts of Sheena Rose through a month-long exhibition titled '#Babypink' and the literary excellence of Naomi Jackson, who will deliver the 22nd annual 'Caribbean Women: Catalysts for Change' Lecture ...”Read more: Bird Hill in Baby Pink-Barbados UWI

About the Author: “Naomi Jackson’s presentation is titled, 'Look me Crosses: Writing Caribbean Women’s Lives' and is scheduled for Friday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Lecture Theatre One of the Roy Marshall Teaching Complex, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus. Born to a Barbadian mother and an Antiguan father in New York, Jackson is the author of 'The Star Side of Bird Hill,' which was nominated for an NAACP Image Award, longlisted for the National Book Critics Circle’s John Leonard Prize and the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize. She studied fiction at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and traveled to South Africa on a Fulbright scholarship, where she received an M.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Cape Town. A graduate of Williams College, her work has appeared in literary journals and magazines in the United States and abroad. She is also the recipient of residencies from the University of Pennsylvania’s Kelly Writers House, Hedgebrook, Vermont Studio Center, and the Camargo Foundation ...”Read more: Bird Hill in Baby Pink-Barbados UWI

About the Artist: “The exhibition '#BabyPink' opens on Sunday, November 6, at 6 p.m. at the Gallery of the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination. There will also be an artist talk on Saturday, November 19 at the gallery, which will be moderated by IGDS: NBU lecturer Dr. Tonya Haynes. A recent graduate of the MFA in Studio Art at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Sheena Rose’s work includes hand-drawn animations, performance art and paintings.
