About the Artist: “Ebony G. Patterson (Jamaican, b. 1981 Kingston, lives Kingston and works Lexington, KY) is the recipient of many prestigious fellowships, awards and grants, including Joan Mitchell Prize Foundation Artist Grant (2015), the Aaron Matalon Award from the Jamaica Biennial (2014), William H. Johnson Prize finalist (2013), a Musgrave Medal from the Institute of Jamaica (2012), Small Axe Magazine and Andy Warhol Commissioned Grant (2012), and Rex Nettleford Fellowship in Cultural Studies (2011). Most recently, Patterson was awarded the 2016 Joan Mitchell Fellowship. This fall her work will be included in the 32 nd Bienal de São Paolo, Brazil (2016) and her solo exhibition Dead Treez travels to Boston University Art Galleries (organized by the Kohler Arts Center (2015) and travelled to the Museum of Art and Design, New York (2015-16). Recent solo exhibitions include The Studio Museum in Harlem (2016), the Atlanta Center for Contemporary Art (2016), and Monique Meloche Gallery (2015). Patterson was featured in the 12th Havana Biennial: Between the Idea and the Experience, Havana, Cuba (2015); Prospect.3: Notes for Now, curated by Franklin Sirmans, New Orleans, LA (2014), and the Jamaica Biennial 2014, National Gallery of Jamaica, Kingston. Her work has been featured in recent seasons of Empire, directed by Lee Daniels (20th Century Fox Television). Recent group exhibitions include Southern Accent: Seeking the American South in Contemporary Art, Nasher Museum, Duke University (2016) travelling to Speed Museum (2017); Disguise: Masks and Global African Art, Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, WA (2015); and En Mas’: Carnival 21st Century Style, The Caribbean as Site Specific Performance at the Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans, LA (2015), National Art Gallery of the Cayman Islands (2016) and National Gallery of the Bahamas (2016). Patterson’s work has been published in The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Financial Times, Forbes Magazine, Frieze Magazine, Interview, Artforum, Art in America, Modern Painters, Vogue Italia, The Huffington Post, Artnet, ArtSlant, Blouin Artinfo, ARC Magazine, Chicago Magazine, The Jamaica Observer, The Miami Herald, and Art Voices Magazine, amongst others. Her work is in public collections of the 21c Museum and Foundation, Birmingham Museum of Art, Nasher Museum at Duke University, National Gallery of Jamaica, Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, Seattle Art Museum, Speed Art Museum, and the Studio Museum in Harlem.
